The benefits and pitfalls of online BMX shopping

Long gone are the days when the BMX enthusiast used to have to either travel miles to find a decent BMX shop, or phone around several mail order companies to try and locate a particular BMX part. As with all shopping, the internet has widened both choice of purchase and choice of outlet for the would-be BMX customer.

There are however several important points to guard against when looking to buy BMX products online. Firstly, it is crucial to find out as much as possible about the online BMX shop: where it is based; who the owners are; and how long they have been in business online. It will often be worth telephoning the shop to ask some technical questions about BMX, just to see whether they are comfortable answering queries on the sport in all its various forms and whether the answers given are relevant or suspiciously generic.

Secondly, it is important that the online BMX shop chosen is not simply a glorified email address. Where an outlet does not specialise in online supply, the customer may find that it stocks a few BMX models only. Moreover, if a shop is not specifically geared up for online delivery, the customer may end up having to wait an unacceptably long time for despatch of a chosen bike or part.

Finally, if an online shop does not stock some of the more renowned brands such as Haro and Hoffman, this may be an indication that the shop is not respected by suppliers and may lack sufficient buying power to keep prices low.
